Saikou Marong, a student residing at Yundum, last Thursday testified as fourth defence witness in a two-count charge of assault and criminal trespass against one Sarjo Marong before Magistrate PM Sarr at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
Sarjo is accused of unlawfully entering the compound of one Fatoumata Trawally, intent to intimidate, annoy or insult her, on 17th April 2016, at New Yundum.
He is also accused of assaulting Fatoumata Trawally by punching her on her mouth and broke her tooth on the same day and place. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
In his testimony, the witness told the court that he was at one of his friend’s house on the day of the incident. He said when he came out from the house, he saw the complainant, Fatou Trawally hold the accused person’s shirt. He said he went and separated them and took the accused person home.
While responding to questions from the accused person, the witness said the problem between the complainant and the accused did not start in his presence but that when he came he found the complainant holding the accused person’s shirt in the presence of many people.
The witness said he arrived at the scene after the problem occurred between the two but he was not aware of the complainant losing any of her teeth. The matter is adjourned to 9th January 2017.
